The Last What's in the Box: Darryl Strawberry

Oh, don't cry. Please don't. It's not the end. It's the beginning! This is the last "What's in the Box" post having now gone through and reviewed the box of baseball cards I brought home from my parents house last Christmas. Good news is is that when I got home shortly I'll be bringing back some more stuff from home so there will be some more posts featuring gazillions of mass-produced commons that no one wants.

I saved this post for last. It was the hardest to assemble because there were a lot of cards and I wanted to get a handle on what I had as I start collecting Darryl Strawberry cards. Absolutely no memory of collecting the majority of these, especially the cards in the "Other" section. I used the valuable Trading Card Database to help identify a lot of them, and was able to contribute at least a half dozen, maybe more, new card fronts & backs to that site.

As I've mentioned, ad nauseam, Darryl Strawberry was my favorite player growing up. I've decided to start collecting him again and will try to see what I can get via trading, but also accept that I will have to buy many of them as I don't have much to trade. I think collecting his cards will be a lot of fun. Certainly from 1984-1989 I never would have known about the vast majority of the cards that were printed.

Well, these are the cards I have. As usual, the numbers in parentheses represent the number of dupes I had. 1989 must've been one of the first years I had cash to spend on collecting as the number of dupes I have of his cards (and others in these posts) is bordering ridiculous. If there are any Strawberry collectors out there interested in anything I had dupes of, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have actually acquired a number of new Darryl Strawberry cards since this blog post was prepared and just today got three cards in the mail via trade. However, I plan on blogging about these acquisitions separately. Since I was a Strawberry fan growing up when he was a New York Mets outfielder my collecting interest right now will be focused on those cards and those years (1983-1990) but am also very interested in cards from 1991 through whenever.

Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Tony: I know, it's bizarre. Imagine if they had Photoshop back then...

Mark: Thanks for your comment and compliment. I have a bunch more cards to blog about. I didn't know the Sports Illustrated for Kids were hard to track down. If I find one out there I'll let you know.
