1998 Donruss Gold Press Proofs Series 2

jessecar on Sportlots is someone I have bought from a few times now and each time I have to say I have been very pleased with the entire transaction. I treated myself to this 1998 Donruss Gold Press Proofs Series 2, Card #181 of Darryl Strawberry and it's a very welcome addition to the collection.

This card is kind of different as it's minimally die-cut. I gather this was en vogue in the late 1990s and early 2000s? I'm not a massive fan of it. Are you?

1996 Ultra Base Set #107

Continuing the blissfully never-ending string of posts highlight cards I got off Sportlots there is this gem from the 1996 Ultra base set which I purchased from iguana02, whom I like quite a bit. Great cards, fast shipping, etc.

Pinstripes notwithstanding this is a sweet card. I like the leg kick and noticed he's got the bat fairly low in his hand on his body which suggests he's winding up here, flinching a bit, if you will, in anticipation of the pitch.

The back of the card feature two additional batting photographs and a head shot with a cheek-full of, probably, tobacco.

Topps Gallery Darryl Strawberry

This is another Sportlots card that I got of Darryl Strawberry a long while ago, probably in the winter. It came from ACARDFAN. I'm a fan of ACARDFAN for sure.

1997 Topps Gallery, Card #12.  Strawberry is obviously dressed for some perverted Halloween party as a NY Yankee and he brought his friend Tino Martinez along.

I do really like the design of this card; the gold border is very nice and the name plate adds a very unique touch to the design; The whole thing feels like it's an old painting or portrait. I guess that was the point in calling it "Gallery".

Kruks on Cards

Everybody's favorite Cardinals collector, Kerry from Cards on Cards, just sent me two righteous cards with plenty of John Kruk on them. They are:

1993 Topps, Card #340

Both of these cards were new to me. I like the 1993 Topps card design a lot though I do prefer to see a player's position to be listed on the front. At least it is quite noticeable on the back.

1994 SP Holoview Blue, Card #22

And the 1994 SP Holoview Blue is freaky! I can angle the card and see two holographic Kruk faces. Are there more than that?

Kerry: Thank you!

Another Harperian Cracked Bat Home Run

The title of this blog post comes from Bryce Harper's recent cracked bat home run. And the cards themselves were lovely gifts from Julie of A Cracked Bat.

The first card up is, perhaps, the strangest I've ever seen. Jay Bell of the Pirates milking a cow.

Jay Bell, 1993 Triple Play Fun at the Park

1993. Just a year or two removed from when I left collecting and so this was a new card for me. The back features, I believe, Vince Coleman, who wore number 11 for the Mets in 1993. But, it could be number 1, Tony Fernandez. Anyone care to weigh in?

I milked that paragraph for all its worth, which did my body good. But forget calcium: I'm going with Vitamin K: Kruk.

Julie sent three cards for me of these sexy Phillies beast.
John Kruk 1993 Finest
John Kruk 1993 Triple Play
John Kruk 2005 Topps Pristine Legends

All three cards were new to my collection and are simply marvelous.

Darryl Strawberry 1988 Donruss All-Stars Pop-Ups
Darryl Strawberry 1988 Fleer Baseball MVPs
Darryl Strawberry 1989 Topps Sticker Backs
Darryl Strawberry 1993 Triple Play
Darryl Strawberry 2005 Topps Pristine Legends
Darryl Strawberry 2009 Topps Ring of Honor
Darryl Strawberry 2010 TRISTAR Obak
Darryl Strawberry 2016 Topps Archives

Julie sent a bunch of welcome Darryl Strawberry cards. Some were dupes, but dupes are welcome in my house. But Julie sent something that has me, in a good way, baffled:

Darryl Strawberry 1988 Pin (by Peter David Inc)

What-the-what is that?

Julie, like OMG, you rock so hard.

Baseball Every Night's Blog Bat Around - All Autograph Team

A lot of guys are showing off some stellar autographs based on Kenny's Blog Bat Around.

So, here is the Baseball Every Night version!!!!!

Pitcher: Dwight Gooden

First Base: John Kruk

Right Field: Darryl Strawberry

And it's probably what you've come to expect from Baseball Every Night. Abject disappointment. With only three players I guess I forfeit with just one-third of a team...

Thanks to Bob Walk the Plank (Gooden & Strawberry) and Mark Moseley (Kruk) for the autographed cards.
