1974 Topps Johnny Bench

1974 Topps Johnny Bench! What a nice card. I got this in my childhood collecting years and kept it all this time and it's a nice vintage card of  a Hall of Famer. To boot, it's from my birth year, too, so it's an added reason to love it.

Bench's last year was 1983 and in 1989 he was elected into the Hall of Fame with 96.4% of the vote. He went in via the BBWAA vote with Carl Yastrzemski who was just off him with 94.6% of the vote. It was both players' first time on the ballot. That year, too, the Veterans committed voted in two players: Al Barlick and Red Schoendienst.

The back of the card is rife with information. Stats, factoids, accolades, full name, facsimile signature, and cartoon!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I could be wrong, but I don't think Johnny Bench ever had a "bad" card.
