Darryl Strawberry: 1990 Shanks Collection

So in 1990 there was something called the Shanks Collection. Darryl Strawberry had two cards in this set. One for "Home Run Derby" and one for being among the "Best Hitters".  It's a 35-card set broken into a few categories: Home Run Derby, Future Hall of Famers, Rookies, Best Hitters I, and Best Hitters II.  Pete Rose and Don Mattingly are the only two guys in the Future Hall of Famers series not to be in the Hall of Fame.

This is oddball baseball cards at its best.

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. You got that right. Why have "Best Hitters I" and "Best Hitters II"--why not just "Best Hitters"? Why does John Olerud have two cards in the rookies section? It's so random. The photography is actually pretty nice, though.

    2. They are nice looking cards, the photographs. And all these oddball sets do at least one thing weird. Though this one seems to have done many things that way!

  2. I like the design, elements of '66 and '69 Topps.

  3. These look like cards you'd find in an early 90's baseball card magazine... which means I'm all about them.

  4. What an interesting set! I wonder if any kids colored in the cartoon images on the card backs.

  5. I've got the Bo Jackson "Shanks" cards from this set. They are some of my favorite oddball cards.
