John Kruk: 1994 Select Sample

Well. Sometime in the last couple of years I showed off the regular base 1994 Select (by Score) card depicted here. This one is a Sample. So it's really special and probably relatively rare in the scheme of things. I'm not trying to stay it's a $2.50 card. No, it's probably under a buck, which might be what I paid for it. But any card showing Kruk fielding, napping, and at bat is a winner. Score!

Do you collect sample cards in general? Not just for your PC, but just to have an example in your collections?

What do you think of the new Cleveland Baseball Team name? Guardians is neutral, sure, but I find meh.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Fantastic! It's not often you see a player taking a nap on the front of his baseball card. I totally collect samples & promo cards. One of these days I'll organize my box and eventually display them properly in a binder.

I'm okay with the name. I'm one of those people who don't like change... but this is change out of respect. As for the name itself... if it were up to me, I would have gone old school and picked Spiders. But I can see how Guardians and Indians rhyme.

  2. I don;'t go out of my way, but I appreciate sample cards in the player collections that I have.

Guardians is boring! They went very basic and safe.

  3. Would have preferred Spiders for the history and unusualness or Comets for the alliteration, but this is fine. I really love the idea of Buckeyes being the old Negro League team there, but I think it's too closely tied to THE Ohio State University.
